What's Happening

Welcome to our 5th grade science and social studies website.

A journey of curiosity, deeper academic understanding, and middle school preparation awaits us!

Our first science unit began on Tuesday, August 26th, with owl pellet dissections. Take a look at our website pictures to view the interesting process.

We moved onto the Mystery Science unit entitled, Web of Life, exploring how consumers, producers, and decomposers each play an important role in ecosystems. We built models of food chains and food webs to investigate how matter and energy flow through these systems, as well as discovered that matter continuously cycles between non-living and living components of the environment and consider ways that we can protect those environments. Our assessment was taken on Friday, September 26th.

If your child is not satisfied with a test's overall score, this can be rectified quite simply. Ask the homeroom teacher for permission to retake it during WIN time; or any other time available during our school day.

We begin our first social studies unit entitled, Native America, Monday, September 29th. Ever since their first encounter with Europeans, Native Americans have been misrepresented in both the popular imagination and the historical record. This Inquiry challenges students to explore diverse historical sources to form a deeper understanding of Native America’s rich and varied cultures and histories. It focuses on inquiry-based learning, engaging students in investigations of history, civics, geography, and economics. We will explore compelling questions, gather evidence from diverse sources, and construct informed arguments and actions based on their learning.
